Yo-Yo Apron from a Vintage Quilt

October 15, 2015 By Faith Leave a Comment

When I decided on my topic for this 31 day writing challenge, I started a list of ideas for (re)purposing my friend’s vintage quilt. Although I would like to have thirty projects from the quilt, I doubt it will happen. Yet surprisingly I have come up with more ideas than I anticipated.

One of my mentors in the prayer quilt ministry at church has been gracious enough to visit me here at Faith Stitched Home as I write through this challenge. As always she lifts me up with words of encouragement and inspiration. She mentioned an apron being a favorite item so of course, I had to go with it!

A few months back she invited members from the prayer quilt and shepherding ministries for lunch. Her home was so elegant and inviting and something that caught my eye right away was a yo-yo table runner on her sofa table. Now you might be thinking, “Yo-yo runner for elegant decor?” Let me tell you, it rocked. She is so gifted with needle and thread. I must ask her for a photo to show you sometime.

Notebook Cover from a Vintage Quilt

October 13, 2015 By Faith Leave a Comment

Keeping lists is a necessity for me. If I don’t write it down, it’s forgotten. If I write something on a piece of paper, it’s lost. I try to stay organized but taming the tiger around here is difficult.

For the items I keep on written lists [grocery lists and the like go on my iPhone], I must put them in a notebook – its bigger and won’t get lost. Surrounding the notebook with a pretty cover catches my attention. Therefore it is a necessity to have a notebook cover, the prettier it is, the more effective it is. That means I’ll pick it up and use it more.

State Pillow Cover from a Vintage Quilt

October 10, 2015 By Faith Leave a Comment

I’m a born and raised Georgia girl. Been here all my life and would not change it for anything. Georgia really has it all – steep mountains, rolling hills, scenic valleys, canyons, piedmonts, lazy rivers, white water rapids, coastline, barrier islands, and beaches. Even though I’ve not really travelled very much in my life, I cannot imagine that any place would be more beautiful. Truly, there is no place like home.

Many people must feel the same as I about their home states. Just have a look around the internet and you will find all sorts of items depicting states from wood projects to textiles.

Here’s my take on state mania in the form of a patchwork pillow cover.

Canvas Tote with Patchwork Roses

October 10, 2015 By Faith Leave a Comment

Today’s (re)purposed project uses some of the small strips that I salvaged from the vintage quilt. Not only am I reusing some of the patchwork but mostly some canvas from a previous project. This series is all about (re)purposing what I have to work with. I really only bought thread, buttons, interfacing for most of the projects, and some of that I had on hand as well.

Patchwork Pumpkins from a Vintage Quilt

October 9, 2015 By Faith 2 Comments

I admit, I have an addiction – to making fabric pumpkins! I can’t stop; if I make one, I make another, and another, and another. I simply can’t get enough. They’re quick, easy, cute, and a great (re)purpose project; what could you not love about them?

Patchwork pumpkins

For the last two years I have made hundreds of the little beauties but not from a vintage quilt like these. I’ll show you other (re)purposed pumpkins after I have exhausted all the projects I’ve created from the vintage quilt, but for now enjoy these precious little patchwork pumpkins.

Patchwork Pillow Cover from a Vintage Quilt

My friend who gave me creative license with her family heirloom vintage quilt has a son who is in the Marines. He is newly married [just shy of two years] and will be off on his first foreign assignment after Thanksgiving. His precious bride will be able to accompany him and the thought of them together on one of the biggest adventures of their lives was the inspiration for this project.

Teddy Bear Softie from a Vintage Quilt

A good use of the small pieces of vintage quilt patchwork is to make them into these little teddy bear softies.

Table Runner from a Vintage Quilt

October 6, 2015 By Faith Leave a Comment

This (re)purposed sewing project makes good use of a larger intact piece of the vintage quilt I am using.

Much of the barely salvageable parts of the quilt are very small and I tried my best to put every bit of the useable pieces to good use. A challenge to myself was to use as much as possible and create as many different keepsakes as possible from Rosalie’s mother’s quilt.

Pennant Banner from a Vintage Quilt

Pennant banner - vintage quilt

Today’s (re)purposed project from my friend’s vintage quilt is a pennant banner.

Banners are festive; they can be used for special occasions or just for everyday.

Who wouldn’t want every day to be a special day?

Every day is a gift to be savored and appreciated.

Everyday should be celebrated.
