Today’s (re)purposed project from my friend’s vintage quilt is a pennant banner.
Banners are festive; they can be used for special occasions or just for everyday.
Who wouldn’t want every day to be a special day?
Every day is a gift to be savored and appreciated.
Everyday should be celebrated.
Of the two quilts my friend asked me to repurpose, one was a wedding ring pattern. The former colorful patches that made up the wedding ring were almost totally destroyed leaving the white space of the quilt the most intact.
Some of the pattern around the edges was still good enough to use and because I wanted to showcase the patches,
I decided to make a small project – a zipper bag.
When I decided to take the challenge to Write 31 Days, I had to consider what topic I was going to cover. The challenge is to write about one subject. My first thought was sewing but that is a very broad subject; I knew I had to narrow it down. The answer came from a good friend of mine – (Re)Purposed Sewing.
I’m a participant! A tradition started several years ago by The Nester challenges writers and bloggers to consistently write for 31 days straight. Admittedly, I had to strongly consider this challenge, mostly from a standpoint of time. I work two jobs, three if you count the sewing for hire that I do. At the moment, the pipeline is cleared so I cannot use that as an excuse to pass up this challenging opportunity.
Neither can I justify the fact that I am so new to this blogging thing to pass the chance by. I have so very much yet to learn and tweak. What I have in this little space of mine so far is very elementary at least in some folks mind, but not to me. I would really like to grow this blog and need to put myself out there for the practice and the hope that I might inspire someone.
I have heard about how hard bloggers work so I am just going to jump right in and see if I’ve got what it takes to actually post for as many of those 31 days as possible. I know its going to be difficult but I’m going to give it my best shot.

Hello, fellow quilters. Thought I would pop in to show you another brown quilt top that I had completed in the early spring. As I mentioned in this post, I had a lot of browns in my stash for making quilt tops for our Prayer Quilt Ministry. On this top, I used a fair amount of browns while throwing in some orange along the way – a perfect quilt for fall.
An old friend commissioned me to make upholstered outdoor cushions for her very cool vintage metal porch set that she inherited.
I made the seat cushions in a light beige with navy piping.
My family is so lucky to have the best neighbors in the world. We count them among the best of our friends.
Our next door neighbor in particular is awesome. We spend a fair amount of time on his driveway (aka red neck patio!) while he fires up his Big Green Egg. His driveway is a magnet. It is extra wide with room for a patio table and four matching chairs. However, the crowd gets too big to be accomodated by the matched patio set so out come the miscellaneous chairs – molded plastic chairs, fold up canvas camping chairs in their carry case, make shift seating in the form of a cooler, you name it.
Once he has provided seating for his happenstance guests, he pulls out a ratty, old vintage webbed rocking chair that belonged to his grandmother as his personal seating. That chair must be 50 years old! You just don’t see these old relics anymore, but I love them.
It’s finished! Finally! It’s been sitting in my sewing room waiting for one last row to be attached so I can pass it on to the next person in our Prayer Quilt Ministry at church.

A friend brought this aluminum Uncle Sam’s hat as a hostess gift when she came to dinner a few years back right around July 4th. You can’t really tell from this photo, but it has a round flat bill just above the ring of stars. She had a pretty little pot full of primroses in the hat when she presented it to me. Just lovely! Well those didn’t last all that long but thankfully the hat did.
