Well, did you guess at the material I used to create this version of patchwork pumpkin?
Fabric swatches!
Yes, fabric swatches started it all.
I sew for hire to supplement my income. I sew all kinds of home decor including curtains, slipcovers, pillows, duvet covers, quilts, bed skirts, shams, and upholster small projects. Over the years I have amassed quite a collection of fabric swatches and of course I cannot throw them away.
As the collection grew over the years, they kept calling to me from the bottom of the sewing chest drawer. “Hey, look at us. We are down here stuffed in this drawer. We’re beautiful and you can do something with us. Make us pretty. You can do it.”
Yes, folks, fabric speaks to me. Weird, maybe? I guess this admission can fuel the fire of the argument that creative types march to a different beat. But please don’t think I’m odd because really I’m not. Friends, can you chime in here on the comments to let readers know that I truly am a normal person?
I meant to have a little tutorial ready for you but its been a 10 hour work day, then dinner to cook, then Happy Camper next door had a Swedish fire log burning on the driveway. [Google it. I’d never heard of one either.] It was really nice to hang out on the Red Neck Patio with hubby, youngest son, and several neighbors for a crisp fall impromptu get together and some carefree conversation.
Please drop by next week and I’ll show how I made them. Just in time for your Thanksgiving decor.
Come back tomorrow though for a round-up of some great Halloween handmades I found. It will be the last day of the Write 31 Days challenge and I couldn’t end the month of October without something to do with Halloween.
See you tomorrow!
xo, Faith
