Kitchen Sewing – Making a Microwave Fabric Bowl

June 1, 2017 By Faith Leave a Comment

I find so much inspiration on the internet, especially on Pinterest.  Obviously, I like to peruse sites that have sewing content and have collected some really great ideas that I want to try – every single idea. Alas, it will never come to be but I can give it my best shot.

How many times have you put a bowl of soup in the microwave and when it is finished cooking you reach in for the bowl believing it not to be too hot to handle and then quickly realize you were so wrong about that assumption?  Then you proceed to run to the table, soup splashing as you scurry, and when you arrive at the table you realize you don’t have a placemat or trivet or pot holder to sit it on.  Then you trip over your own feet to get back to your kitchen linen drawer to get something to sit the hot bowl on so you don’t ruin the finish on your tabletop.  Heating up that yummy bowl of soup has turned into a dangerous mission.  Ah, but there is a solution to this dilemma.

A Perfect Rosebud

Isn’t God’s artistry perfect in every way?

Look at that rosebud. Have you ever seen anything more perfect and beautiful?

I’m sure we could all say yes but today, for today, this is His perfection. This and the ones we love so much.

Pumpkins from Fabric Swatches: How to Make

November 5, 2015 By Faith Leave a Comment

Welcome back! Thanks for coming by to see how I made the pumpkins from fabric swatches.

Pumpkin - fabric swatch

As I mentioned, I had tons of fabric swatches that I had collected over the years and true to form, I simply could not throw them away. After years of collecting, the light bulb went off one day and I came up with these little swatch pumpkins as a way to use all my samples.

Patchwork Pumpkin of a Different Kind

Back at it today with a different type of pumpkin – the one that started this whole addiction of mine. Put your thinking caps on and guess what I (re)purposed to make this little beauty.

More Pumpkins

October 29, 2015 By Faith Leave a Comment

Even though I have finished the (re)purposed projects with the vintage quilt [at least for now], I have a few more items to show you that involve reusing fabric for purposes that was not originally intended.

A co-worker was moving and cleaning out to lighten the load for the cross country move. A friend of his, who worked for a national furniture chain, had passed along upholstery samples for which I became the lucky recipient.

What, you ask, to do with fabric samples? Well that’s a silly question; you know me better than that! Make pumpkins of course!

Pink fabric pumpkin

Don’t you just love this little pink chenille number? She’s cute and prissy with that lace collar. She looks so much like those velvet pumpkins that are so trendy right now. The lace comes from my friend’s mother’s sewing stash. I love it!

How to make a Patchwork Pumpkin

October 24, 2015 By Faith Leave a Comment

Patchwork pumpkin 3

At my friend, Connie’s request, here is a quick and easy how to for the patchwork pumpkin. I’ve got to warn you right now before I go any further: This project is addictive. You will not stop at just one. Heck, you might not stop at ten! Please do not hold me accountable should pumpkin making consume you and cause you to skip cooking dinner or doing the laundry. Blame Connie for asking! Create these at your own risk. Oh, and enjoy yourself during the process!

Uncle Sam’s Hat

Uncle Sam's hat - flag boquet

A friend brought this aluminum Uncle Sam’s hat as a hostess gift when she came to dinner a few years back right around July 4th. You can’t really tell from this photo, but it has a round flat bill just above the ring of stars. She had a pretty little pot full of primroses in the hat when she presented it to me. Just lovely! Well those didn’t last all that long but thankfully the hat did.
