The (re)purpose project du jour is a table mat created from a thrift store table cloth and small scraps from the vintage quilt.
I cut a leaf shape based on the size of scraps I had to work with and ironed interfacing to them since they are so thin and delicate in order to keep their shape. I placed the leaves across the bottom and up the side and stitched them in place with a decorative stitch on my machine.
After the leaves were stitched to the table mat, I thread sketched a vine to visually connect them and sketched veins onto the leaves.
Now I have a nice little fall leaf table mat to display some of my autumn decorations on. Here, I am using a fabric pumpkin that I made. More about that later.
I like using something like a mat, doily, basket, or tray to display seasonal decor instead of just sitting it directly on a table. It pulls items together and makes it a gathered collection giving it a base from which it is displayed.
What do you use when creating a base for your vignettes?
xo, Faith
look forward to seeing this as part of the fall collection around the house!
Thanks, honey! It will be on our Thanksgiving table.
